About Oshima Stone
Oshima, Ehime. On this island, midway along the Shimanami Kaido, Oshima stone is quarried. What sets this stone apart as an architectural material is its scale: some of the largest granite blocks in Japan come out of this mountain. This is why architects and general contractors who place stone at the core of a space choose Oshima stone.
What it takes to quarry a monolith
Monoliths cannot be quarried just anywhere. It takes a mountain; the infrastructure to keep that mountain working; and the capacity to move, cut, and deliver what comes out of it. The monoliths of Oshima reach architecture only through those who own the mountain — and keep managing it.
